How to play Gem Cascade
- Tap one gem, then a gem directly next to it. The two swap places.
- Line up three or more gems of the same kind in a row or column to clear them.
- Gems above the gap fall down and new gems drop in from the top.
- If a falling gem completes another line it clears as well, and each extra step in the chain is worth more.
- A swap that makes no match is undone automatically. If no swap can make a match, the board reshuffles.
About Gem Cascade
Gem Cascade is a match-three puzzle about chain reactions. Swap two adjacent gems to line up three or more of a kind, and they clear. New gems drop into the gaps, and if that drop lines up another match it clears too, then again, and again. Each link in the chain is worth more than the last.
There is no timer and nothing to lose but the score. If you ever reach a board with no legal swap left, it shuffles itself rather than ending the run. Nothing about this game needs a word list, which makes it a good short break between heavier puzzles.
What’s included
- Eight by eight board with no starting matches
- Cascade multiplier, capped so a board can never spin forever
- Automatic reshuffle when no legal move remains
- Best score saved in your browser
Gem Cascade FAQ
- How do I score more in Gem Cascade?
- Look for swaps that set up a cascade rather than ones that clear immediately. A gem that falls into place and clears again is worth double, and the third link in the chain is worth three times as much.
- What happens when there are no moves left in Gem Cascade?
- The board shuffles itself into a fresh arrangement that has at least one legal move and your score carries over. The run never ends.
- Do I need to register to play Gem Cascade?
- No. It runs in your browser and your best score is kept in local storage on your own device.
